Bigger is not always better…
When it comes to choosing a PR agency to work with, there is no shortage of options. Working with an agency is a great decision for any business who wants to tell their story, build their profile and reputation, and get their products in front of their target audience. A brand may think that the best thing might be to go for one of the bigger, more well-known ones – but when it comes to agencies, bigger doesn’t always mean better.
We have put together a list of things to be aware of when deciding which PR agency is best for you.
Focus
The biggest agencies have the biggest clients, bigger clients tend to mean bigger demands, which take more time. A smaller agency will have fewer clients, meaning they should have more time to spend on your PR strategy and objectives. They will also have the time and energy to focus effectively on each client in order to maximise coverage and achieve your goals.
Teamwork
That first meeting and first impressions are so important, and often the bigger agencies will send along senior managers to an initial client meeting. But how likely are you to hear from the people you met once the contract has been signed? Smaller agencies have fewer staff therefore the team that you meet initially will, in most cases, be the same people that work with you as your partnership starts. A strong relationship is key within any business partnership which is why it is so important for consistency on your account from the beginning.
Cost
Of course, you will want to ensure that you get the best results for your money, which is why working with a smaller agency is another big bonus. They will be much more competitive on price - I can guarantee that some larger agencies wouldn’t even consider working with some of our clients because they just wouldn’t have the budget. However, cheaper doesn’t mean that we don’t get similar coverage results. We have secured national coverage across the board for our clients and it won’t cost you the earth to get results.
Flexibility
We place a lot of focus on flexibility. We understand we need to be flexible with what we can do to promote our client’s products; we are flexible in terms of making budgets work; we are flexible with our working hours; we adopt a flexible approach to getting varied coverage. This ability has allowed us to change how we pitch to potential media outlets, which we pitch to and when we pitch – all for the good of the client.
The ‘Fit’
Hiring a PR agency must be right for you, your business and the PR agency itself. We have always been proud to be honest – if we don’t think we can do a good enough job for you, we will tell you. We never make promises we can’t keep. We always see ourselves as an extension of any team and work hard to become just that. You will find out much quicker if the ‘fit’ is right for you and your business when working with a smaller agency than you will working with a big one.
Hiring an agency is a big decision for any brand – get it right and the agency you choose can help take your brand to the next level. If you are interested in speaking to us about what we can do for you please get in touch!
