Meet The Team - Nick
Introducing Nick, our latest recruit who has since shaved off his moustache in favour of what he calls a ‘sleek, professional and ready for anything kind of look, à la Ray Mears’…
Name: Nicholas Ikin
Job Title: PR Executive at Bleat PR
Mostly spends the weekend… working on creative projects at The Rodeo Magazine and @madeupdesigner, whilst listening to music and watching painfully slow-but-good documentaries.
Before Bleat PR I… was studying for a Masters degree in Arts Management, Policy and Practice at the University of Manchester, alongside part-time work as a Marketing Officer at East Riding Theatre and an internship at the Manchester-based independent publisher, The Modernist. In addition, I’ve worked on a variety of freelance projects providing marketing, communications and graphic design support.
Favourite film quote… ‘Here's Johnny!’ - The Shining.
The best holiday I’ve ever been on was to… New York. Before I went I had an ‘idea’ of what the city would be like and I half-expected to come away from my trip with the reality not quite lining up. But, boy was I wrong. As an avid film and music lover, I spent most of my time completing a makeshift pilgrimage from one place of cultural significance to another; Greenwich Village to Brooklyn Bridge, the Bowery to CBGB and a quick stop at Studio 54. Bumping into none other than Stranger Things star Millie Bobbie Brown along the way, I fell in love with the city and on the plane home I promised that one day I would move there …
Best piece of professional advice I’ve ever received is… if you want something, just ask; a no is better than nothing.
Biggest ‘Leap of Faith’ I’ve taken in my career was… to turn down a graduate scheme position after I finished my History Degree. After spending months searching for a job with the ‘best’ salary (something that I thought at the time meant ‘success’) I realised that no matter how much money I earned, I couldn’t live with the decision to become a ‘Technology Risk Consultant’ – whatever that actually means… Instead, I decided to pursue a career in which I felt there was some ‘worth’.
If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be… the taste of sweet victory. Just kidding… I’d probably have to say spaghetti bolognese. There’s a running joke in my family that whenever we went on holiday, no matter whether the restaurant was an Indian or a Thai, I’d order a spaghetti bolognese. Having said that, I will ironically dine out on the fact that I also single-handedly created the bolognese pizza when a little ten-year old me asked a baffled waiter in the Britannia Inn, Langdale to mix my two of my favourite foods. Lo and behold, I returned a year later to find that my invention had made it onto the menu; you can call me Mr. Ramsey from now on.
